Discussion about establishing a United Church in New Minas was started in January, 1985, when a committee was formed to begin planning for a new congregation.
In May 1986, a minister was hired to help organize the new congregation with financial assistance from the Ventures in Missions project of the United Church.
In September 1986, Sunday services began at the New Minas Civic Centre and within two months, the congregation was constituted with 58 charter members.
The church property was purchased in September 1987, and with contributions of $25,000 and volunteer labour from the congregation, New Minas United Church opened its doors in February 1988 and held its dedication service later that year on Sunday June 12, 1988.
After amalgamation and the sale of the other churches, the decision was made to continue to worship, until further notice, in the New Minas church building which became the home of Orchard Valley United Church.
